Captor Therapeutics Awarded Grant from The Michael J. Fox Foundation to Advance NEK7 Project

26.10.2026

We are proud to announce that on September 29, 2026, the Management Board of Captor Therapeutics S.A. signed a grant agreement with The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF)!

Neuroinflammation induced by the hyperactivation of NLRP3 inflammasome is recognized as a significant driver of Parkinson's disease progression. Blocking this structure offers hope for reducing harmful inflammation and slowing disease progression. To achieve this, we have developed a molecule that inhibits NLRP3 by targeting its key regulator, the NEK7 protein, to the cellular protein degradation machinery.

Under the terms of the agreement MJFF funding will support further preclinical development of our drug candidate — capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier — for use in Parkinson's disease.

Support from MJFF will enable additional preclinical studies to evaluate this approach and further investigate its potential in Parkinson’s disease.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for supporting this research, and we look forward to advancing our work in Parkinson’s disease.
